Willie Whitaker was born on April 30, 1941 in New Hanover County, NC. He departed his life on February 17, 2022 at Cape Fear Valley Hospital, Fayetteville, NC. He was the oldest of eighteen children born to the late James Whitaker and Irene Faison. He was preceded in death by his wife Marie Harris.\n\nWillie retired from Department of Defense Education Activity on June14, 1999. He was a faithful employer. Previously he had worked for Wellons in Spring Lake, NC. Willie enjoyed good music and his dogs were the love of his life, Susie, Yellow and Peadyboy. They really comforted him and gave him joy.\n\nHe was a very kind, humble and giving person. Willie would never talk ill of anyone. He truly had genuine concern for others and to know him was to love him.\n\nWillie has a close connection with the staff at Fresenius Kidney Center Anderson Creek who took good care of him, his doctors at First Choice Community in Lillington, NC and especially three drivers; Ms. Myrtie Covington, Mr. Gregory Walker and Ms. Patty. Thank you all for your tender kindness. We would like to recognize some special people that were very helpful to Willie: Mr. Terry Elliott, Ms. Peterson, Ms. Shelia Lewis and Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Taylor.\n\nHe leaves to cherish his memories: his adopted granddaughter, Ms. Debra Murph, of Fayettevile, NC, sister, Geraldine Whitaker, of Fayetteville, NC and his caregiver, Ms. Deloris Gibbs and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.\n\nFuneral services will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2022 in the chapel of Adcock Funeral Home at 2:00 PM.
