Retired SFC Billy "Bill" Ray Gomez, 83, of Fayetteville went home to be with the Lord while surrounded by his family on February 7, 2023. Billy was born in Madison, WV to the late Jimie and Elsie Browning Gomez on March 6, 1939. Billy was the last survivor of ten children. He is survived by his Taekwondo wife of 42 years, Wanda Sheets Gomez; children, Barbara Ann McKee and husband, Mark, Billy Ray Gomez, Jr. and wife Terry, Joey Malcom and wife Linsey, and David Malcom; 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Billy was a story-teller and a jokester, a race car driver and an Army veteran. Billy loved his family and his country and was dedicated to both. After 20 years, 3 months, and 17 days, Billy retired from the US Army to take care of his family. He was the owner and Master Mechanic at Gomez Auto Service in Fayetteville where he opened the doors in 1984 and has passed down his business and knowledge to his son Billy, Jr. He had a need for speed in his number 66 racecar. Billy raced all over the US and in Germany and was inducted into the Rockfish Speedway Hall of Fame in 2022. He has been reunited with many family members, friends, and his dogs Huzzy and BJ. Services Honoring Billy's life and legacy will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 1:00PM at Adcock Funeral Home, with Pastor Jerry Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 11:00PM until 1:00PM.
