Rebecca (Becky) Sue Horton, 60, of Sanford passed away on June 8, 2022 while surrounded by her family and friends.\n\nBecky was born on February 11, 1962 in Lancaster, PA and grew up in Mansfield, where she was raised by her adopted parents Lynne Copestick Van der Hiel and the late Rudolph Van der Hiel.\n\nBecky was bigger than life, she was full of courage and tenacity and was always willing to jump in to get anything done. She was a past Lieutenant Governor of Kiwanis International, even reaching the distinguished level of Regional Trustee. She was a Real Estate agent with WestWinds II, and a former Coldwell Banker agent. Becky loved to travel with her husband during his military career. Together, with their son, they visited some of the most beautiful and exciting places this world could offer. Becky loved life, spending time at the beach, boating, but mostly, she loved spending time with her friends and family.\n\nBecky is preceded in death by her sister, Mary Ellen Miller.\n\nBecky is survived by her beloved husband and best friend, Scott Horton and their son, Christopher Joseph Horton; sisters, Amy Van der Hiel, Marijka Van der Hiel, Roxie Owens and Kristen Farrer (Mike); sisters-in-law, Denise Hayes and Terry Jo Carter (Bruce); several nieces and nephews and many, many friends.\n\nIn lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Becky's memory to the Boys and Girls Homes of NC, P.O. Box 127, Lake Waccamaw, NC 28450,designated to the Kiwanis Cottage Legacy Fund.\n\nThere will be a celebration of Becky's life on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 1:00PM at Adcock Funeral Home, Spring Lake. A reception will follow at Carolina Lakes Club House at 3:00PM. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, June 10, 2022 from 5:00PM until 7:00PM at Adcock Funeral Home.
