The first day of November 2017, Mildred Reese Lucas Oglesby left this earthy world on the "Wings of an Angel" and joined the Heavenly Father.\n\nMildred Reese Lucas Oglesby was born to the Late Alonzo and Annie Reese Ray Lucas in Manchester, North Carolina, the second (2nd) of Ten (10) children. At age (2 1/2) Mildred's parents moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she received early public education through (6th) grade from 1939-1945. The Remaining education years were in the Cumberland County School system, 1946-1950. Mildred Reese Lucas Oglesby later attended City Colleges of Chicago to earn A "Business Administration Certificate with Honors".\n\nMildred Reese Lucas Married James Oglesby of Philadelphia and in the United States Army in October 1951.\n\nBeing a Military Wife, Mildred, with her Husband and Children traveled to Fort Bragg, NC; Fort Campbell, KY; Augsburg and Mannheim, West Germany and Tampa, Florida.\n\nMildred Reese Lucas Oglesby, being a mother was very involved in the community as a Coach, Den Mother, Savoy Heights Community Watch Coordinator and Charter President, Political and Educational Advocate, Family provider, Supporter, Civil Rights Activist and Volunteer with the Fayetteville Police Department Citizens Alumni and Watch programs.\n\nMildred Reese Lucas Oglesby was employed with the Army & Air Force exchange services as a Sales Associate; as a Avon Sales Associate; Southland Corporation, Assistant Manager; and Civilian with the" Department of the Army", Payroll Technician, Civilian Pay-Heidelberg, West Germany.\n\nPreceded in death before Mildred was her husband, Retired CW-4 James Oglesby, Sr., Parents Alonzo and Annie Ray Lucas, Brothers; Stanley and Evander, Sisters; Albertine and Shirley.\n\nA graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Noon at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery on Fort Bragg, NC with Rev. Orinzie Hooks, Jr. officiating and interment to follow. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Adcock Funeral Home in Spring Lake from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.\n\nSurviving are sisters; Marian Lucas, Veronica Bailey, Karen Dodds and Deborah Lucas; Children and Spouses; Sheila Oglesby Robertson (Jerry); James M. Oglesby, Jr.; Michael A. Oglesby (Phyllis); Sherman M. Oglesby (Myong); Ditrich A. Oglesby(Barbara); Kerry Q. Oglesby (Leslee); Tonya Oglesby-Charleston (Thurman); Octavia K. Oglesby; Perryn L. Oglesby (Kennetha); 11 Grandchildren; 9 Great Grandchildren.\n\nMildred Reese Lucas Oglesby will be missed by all; but may she be at peace, rise and receive her wings in Heaven as God receives her heavenly soul.
