Linden, NC: Max Gardner Stafford, 86, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2016 in his home. He was born January 8, 1930 in Johnston County, the eighth child of the late Joseph Wilbert Stafford and Nora Ann Kornegay Stafford. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Stafford, three brothers: John Richard, Wilbert Leon and Linol William; and two sisters: Nora Pauline Tadlock Gorrell and Annie Marie Hartley.\n\nHe served in the United States Marine Corp. He also worked for T. A. Loving, Concrete Service, Fay Block Co. and D. R. Allen & Son before starting his own company, Hydraulic Equipment Sales & Service.\n\nFuneral services will be held at 12:30 PM at Anderson Creek Community Church, 2085 Ray Road, Spring Lake, NC. on Thursday, January 28, 2016. Interment will follow in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, 8220 Bragg Blvd, Fort Bragg, NC 28310. The family will receive friends and family prior to the funeral service at the church from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM.\n\nHe is survived by his wife of 43 years, Susan Walker Stafford; daughters, Ann Marie Stafford of the home and Judy Ferguson; sons, Ronnie and Bryce; brothers, Henry of Carrolton, VA, and Earl of Princeton, NC.; sisters, Rachel Porter of Goldsboro and Louise Popkey of Portsmouth, VA. Also surviving are three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
