Lyman (Shorty) Speight, of Fayetteville passed away March 31, 2018 at the age of 92.\n\nHe is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty J. Speight, their daughter Sheila S. Cain (Joel) and their son Joseph N. Speight (Susan). Mr. Speight also leaves behind 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, a brother, Roscoe Speight (Peggy), a sister, Ann Speight, and many nieces and nephews. \n\nLyman was born in Wilson Country, NC on March 3, 1926. He enlisted in the U.S. Army to fight in the Korean War. For his service, he was awarded the Bronze Star for heroism and the Purple Heart. He retired after 20 years of faithful service to our country. Later, he managed Ponderosa Gulf.\n\nHis work for the Lord has included serving as Deacon at LaGrange Park Baptist Church and Bonnie Doone Baptist Church where he also ran the tape ministry and did office work. For many years, Lyman volunteered with Our Daily Bread to make daily devoitions available to individuals, churches, and hospitals. In his later years, he could be found almost daily working in his garden. \n\nFuneral services will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Adcock Funeral Home in Spring Lake. Interment will immediately follow in Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, April 2, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Adcock Funeral Home.\n\nIn lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Lake Rim Baptist Church or Our Daily Bread.
