Joan B. Johnston Obituary (1938 - 2018) - Spring Lake, North Carolina

Joan Johnston, 80, formerly of Spring Lake, passed away in her residence on Friday, July 13, 2018. Joan was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and was devoted to her family. She was a member of the Eastern Star, member of VFW Auxiliary 4542 for forty-seven years and was Past Department President of the State of NC, was a representative for the Veterans Administration Volunteer Service for over twenty years, and was Past Grand President of the MOCA. She loved providing services to veterans and their families. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Gourd Springs Baptist Church with Pastor Ronnie Stewart officiating. Interment will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens in Spring Lake. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Adcock Funeral Home. Surviving are her children: Lisa Johnston Frizzelle and husband, Roscoe; Col. Johnny J. Johnston and wife, Lory; Teresa Johnston Sloss and husband, John; siblings, Sue Johnson of Wilkesboro, NC; P. D. Brewer of Danville, VA; and Deanna Patterson of Hope Mills, NC; grandchildren: Jennifer Ballard and husband, Eric; Jonathon Johnston and wife, Amber; John Sloss; Jordan Johnston; Jamie Sloss; Michaela Sloss Horton and husband, Don; and Jackson Sloss. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in her memory to American Cancer Society, 2202 Wrightsville Avenue, Suite 111, Wilmington, NC 28403.
