Ret. US Army Major Harold Dean Horton, 80, of Cameron passed at his home on Monday, April 26, 2021.\n\nDean was born on May 2, 1940 to the late Alma Ashburn Horton and Hubert Burtrand Horton in Henry County, Virginia.\n\nDean dedicated his life to his country in the US Army and Special Forces. He was highly decorated and was inducted to the US Army Operational Testers' Hall of Fame in 2011. After retirement, he was known as the Jack-of-all-trades and especially loved working with his hands.\n\nDean is survived by his wife of 60 years, Iris Conway Horton; two daughters, Paige Benefield and Kim Loving and husband Monty; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; brothers, J. W. Horton and wife Faye, and Alan Hodges and wife Elaine; one sister, Debra Lavinder and husband Michael and many nieces, nephews and cousins.\n\nFuneral services honoring Dean's life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at First Apostolic Church of Sanford, 315 E. Weatherspoon Street, Sanford, NC 27330. There will be a visitation at 7:00pm for family and friends on Friday, April 30, 2021. Services entrusted to Adcock Funeral Home and Crematory, Spring Lake.
