Florence Viola Jones-Mitchell, a compassionate and humble servant of the Lord, was called home on May 30, 2023. Born on March 25, 1934, in Kingston, Jamaica, Florence was a loving and empathetic soul who touched the lives of many. A devoted member of Northside Church of Christ in Hartford for over 30 years, her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she embodied the teachings of Jesus in her daily actions. As it is written in 1 John 4:7, "Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God."\n\nIn her professional life, Florence worked as a retail cashier, but her true calling was serving her community and making a difference in the lives of others. Her kindness and generosity were evident in her willingness to provide shelter for the homeless and offer support to anyone in need. Florence's love for gardening brought beauty to her surroundings, and her nurturing spirit extended to both plants and people. She lived by the words of Galatians 6:2, "Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ."\n\nFlorence is survived by her devoted husband, Alberga Mitchell, her loving nieces Eleanor Northover and Melinda Northover-Sanders, and a host of relatives and friends who will cherish her memory. She is preceded in death by her father, Oscar Jones, mother, Eula Menns, and sister, Worrell Northover. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 11:00 am at Riverview Memorial Gardens, located at 1899 North Bragg Boulevard, Spring Lake, North Carolina, 28390. \n\nWe invite you to leave memories and upload photos to Florence's memorial page, as we celebrate her life and the love she shared with all who knew her.
