Eleanor Fortson Boyd, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother peacefully passed away on August 20, 2022, in Pittsboro, North Carolina.\n\nEleanor was born on April 28, 1941 in Athens, Georgia, to James Clifford Fortson and Annie Sue Suddeth. Eleanor was the youngest of seven children. Eleanor learned to sew at a very early age and soon began to work in the sewing mills in Athens.\n\nIt was in Athens that she met her first husband, George Luther Wilkes. The two were married on August 1, 1958 and had three daughters, Pamela Susanne Wilkes (Eures), Anita Bernice Wilkes (Corscadden), and Ellette Wilkes (Shafer).\n\nIn the early 1970s, Eleanor and her girls moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina. Shortly thereafter Eleanor met the man she would spend the rest of her life with, Herschel Lee Boyd, better known to everyone as Lee. They were married on April 18, 1975, and together they had one son, Herschel Lee Boyd Jr. Eleanor and Lee ran a small upholstery shop, located in Spring Lake, North Carolina, doing furniture and auto upholstery. By the late 1980s, Eleanor saw an opportunity to return to her passion of clothing alterations and began offering alteration services to the military stationed at the nearby Pope Air Force Base and Fort Bragg Army Post. Eleanor soon became a well-known name in the local military community, and began doing alterations for soldiers around the world.\n\nEleanor treated each soldier like they were her family, going as far as calling them her "babies." She would celebrate their promotions, as well as suffer their losses. Eleanor loved every soldier that came into their shop. Health forced Eleanor to retire in 2020, and that hurt her more than anything in life.\n\nEleanor loved her family. Eleanor had a son, three daughters, ten grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.
