Edward May Thomas, age 70, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at NC State Veterans Nursing Home in Fayetteville, NC, where he had resided\n\nfor five years. This nursing home was chosen so that he might be close to his daughter, Susan Keen, whose husband, Tim, is stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. \n\n Edward is survived by his wife of 28 years, Charlotte Hunter Thomas, and his daughter, Susan Thomas Keen and husband, Tim, and their children, Christopher, Clara and Austin.\n\n Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Catherine and Edward Thomas and his brother, Freddie Thomas. Edward's childhood was spent in Moncure, NC before he enlisted in the US Navy. He served on the USS Isley Royale during the Vietnam War.\n\n Upon his honorable discharge he attended NC State University. He was employed at Nortel in the RTP as a Senior Computer Programmer.\n\n Edward and Charlotte were married on Valentines Day, 1987. Charlotte's daughter, Kara Mellott Barber and husband, Terry, and their children, Logan and Rebecca and Charlotte's son, Travis Hunter Mellott, and his sons, Hunter and Ethan, will always cherish the friendship and wonderful memories of Edward spending quality time with each of them. He gave loving encouragement to Susan, Kara, and Travis and passed down his knowledge and love of music.\n\n A celebration of Edward's life and the rendering of military honors will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 12 o'clock noon at the Committal Shelter of Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, 8220 Bragg Boulevard, Fort Bragg, NC. 28310. Interment will immediately follow.\n\n Memorials may be made in memory of Edward May Thomas to United Hospice\n\nFoundation, 1626 Jeurgens Court, Norcross, GA 30093.
