Sergeant First Class (Retired) Durmott Anthony Mullings, a respected husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and esteemed friend, transitioned from this life on Monday, February 24, 2025, at the age of 66. Born on July 5, 1958, in Carenage, Trinidad & Tobago, he was the son of the late Durmott Mullings, Sr. and Glenda C. Cox, who lives on. Durmott was the eldest of his siblings: Donna Mullings-Turner, Garnett "Tex" Mullings, Darrel Mullings, and Christian Mullings. He was especially close to Donna and Garnett, who preceded him in death. Durmott lived a life of service, faith, and an unwavering pursuit of his passions.
At just 18 years of age, Durmott came to the United States determined to chart his own path. He answered the call to serve his new country, enlisting in the United States Army. He served with distinction for 21 years, rising to the rank of Sergeant First Class. His tours of duty included the 1991 Persian Gulf War "Desert Storm," where he demonstrated exceptional leadership, courage, and commitment. Durmott was a well-decorated veteran with a host of medals, badges, and campaign ribbons. His most notable achievements included the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Kuwait Liberation Medal, the Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge, with Rifle Bar, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Parachutist Badge, and the remarkable attainment of the Southwest Asia Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, representing a high level of service and valor in a combat zone.
In addition to earning the Noncommissioned Officer's Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 3, Durmott was committed to education and nurturing his talents and abilities. He completed Military Education in Nuclear Biological Chemistry, Weapons System Repair, Equipment Operation Repair, Basic Airborne Training, Primary Leadership Development, Advanced Noncommissioned Officer, and many others. Durmott was a commanding and well-respected presence with an upright zeal for public service. He cultivated many meaningful relationships during his time as an active-duty military service member. His comrades remember him as headstrong, opinionated, and funny.
While Durmott was intensely passionate about his work, he was also engaged with and loved by his family. He is remembered as a man who frequently brought laughter, dynamic energy, and told the best stories. Durmott loved to share his vast knowledge on an array of topics, particularly his love of cars, dogs, hunting, and lessons learned in his life. He was a man of many interests and talents. He enjoyed being outdoors, on the water, building, wielding, and taking care of animals. A man of deep faith, Durmott often spoke and encouraged others in the words of God and the Christian faith. He lived his faith through his acts of service, generosity, and support, always willing to lend a helping hand and be a committed team player and leader.
Durmott displayed his love for others in many ways. He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Glenda C. Cox; his eldest daughter, Shavon Danielle Newsome (with former wife Queen Mullings) and her husband, Antonio Newsome; his grandchildren, Jalen Lindsay and Ja'Veion "Trae" Lindsay; his son, Raymond Anthony Mullings (with former wife Angela Mullings); and his youngest daughter, Shantella "Jasper" Glenda Mullings, with his beloved wife, Lisa Murray Mullings. In addition, his memory is cherished by his nieces Glenda V. Mullings, Felicia Turner, Jimeka Turner, and nephew, Albert Mullings; his close cousin, Veronica; a longtime dear friend, Michael Noell; and a host of other relatives and friends in the United States and Trinidad & Tobago.
