Delton Theo West, 89, of Harnett County, went to his heavenly home on December 31, 2023.\nDelt was born July 16, 1934, to the late Astor Alexander West and Viola McLamb West Baker.\n\nHe is preceded in death by siblings Mattie B. Johnson, Ola Raynor, Pearl Lee, Boyce Litten, Clara Douglas, Tommy West, Bill West, Alex West, Sherrill West, and George West.\n\nThose left to cherish Delt’s memory include his wife of 66 years, Shelby Raynor West, daughters: Tammy Currin (Dwight) and Gwen West. Grandchildren: Justice Reyes, Ashley McCarthy (John), and great-grandchildren: Hunter, Holden, Abigail, Addison, and Carson as well as many other friends and relatives.\n\nDelt graduated from Anderson Creek High School where he played basketball and was voted “Most Likely to Become a Movie Star.”\n\nImmediately following graduation, he began farming, which was a labor of love from which he never retired. Not much made him happier than being out in the field riding his John Deere tractor. When he wasn’t farming, you could find him hunting and running his fox dogs. He loved to listen to the “cry of the hounds” as the hunt was on.\n\nHe loved to share his stories and wisdom and he certainly never met a stranger, only someone he didn’t know yet. \n\nDelt was a devoted husband and father and was always there to support his family in all of their endeavors. He was so proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved passing on his expert advice any chance he got!\n\nWhile Delt’s passing leaves a hole in our hearts, I think we can all say we are a little wiser and blessed beyond measure for having him in our lives.\n\nIn lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Delt's honor to UNC Rex Healthcare Heart and Vascular Foundation by clicking the link https://give.unc.edu/hfdonate?p=rexh&_gl=1*1o7bgc0*_gcl_au*MzU5MTk0NjIxLjE3MDQyMTI5MzY.&_ga=2.43377893.1764572646.1704212937-647588963.1704212936 or to New Hope Baptist Church, 293 Bethel Baptist Road, Spring Lake, NC 28390.\n\nVisitation for family and friends will be from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 3, 2023 at New Hope Baptist Church, Spring Lake.
