Concepcion Zapata

–

Spring Lake, North Carolina

Concepcion J. Zapata, known to many as “Zapata,” age 75, of Spring Lake, NC, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on December 8th, 1950, in Ciudad del Maíz, San Luis Potosí, México, he was the son of Rosa Flores Garcia and Cipriano Zapata Lopez.

He shared 34 years of marriage with his wife, Helen M. Zapata. Together, they built a life centered on their love, faith, hard work and caring for one another.

Zapata worked in construction as a plumber for Ivey Mechanical. Part of his work that he was particularly proud of was assisting with the construction of Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and the VA Hospital, in Fayetteville, NC.

He found joy in hunting, fishing, gardening and making wine from his grape vines. Those who knew him will remember his lightheartedness and laughter, his positivity and compassion for every breathing thing, and the way he would give anyone the shirt off his back, even if it was his only shirt.

His brother Hedilberto (Edy for short), shared, “Concepción always loved nature and loved the hills of their hometown. He would tell his sisters how he dreamed of building a home among the hills.”

He is survived by his wife, Helen M. Zapata; his stepson, Michael Allen McArthur and stepdaughter Rhonda McArthur Weaver; his granddaughter, Brooke N. Weaver Tillman, and many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his Aunt Enedina Flores García; his siblings, María de Lourdes Zapata Flores, María Juana Zapata Flores, María Eleazar Zapata Flores, Teresa de Jesús Zapata Flores, Efraín Zapata Flores, Hedilberto Zapata Flores, José Santos Zapata Flores and Niece, Alicia Zapata Flores and many other cherished family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosa Flores Garcia, his father, Cipriano Zapata Lopez his sister, Alejandrina Zapata Flores and his stepdaughter, Kathie McArthur Delp.

A Funeral & Celebration of Life service and burial will be held on Thursday, November 5th, 2026, at 12:00 pm at 641 Oakridge Duncan Road, Fuquay Varina, NC 27526 with Daniel P. Armstrong, Chaplain, officiating.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to his very close friend, Sam Sayas and every staff member from Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for their support, compassion and exceptional care.

Arrangements are entrusted to Adcock Funeral Home of Spring Lake, NC.
