Aurthor "Bud" Hogan, 72, of Hope Mills, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on September 17, 2024. Bud was born on April 2, 1952, in Bristow, Oklahoma to Elouise Hogan and the late Aurthor Seldon Hogan, Sr. Bud was the beloved husband of Victoria Marie Loveless Hogan, whom he married on July 14, 1979, in Oklahoma City. Their journey together was filled with shared passions, laughter, and a deep bond that inspired all who knew them. He is survived by his loving wife, Victoria (Vicki); his siblings, Nancy Hartwig (Kirk) and Jane Ligon (Larry); nieces, Amy Jo Martin (Rob) and Emily Ann Sportsman (Scott); great-niece, Sylvia Beryl Sportsman and a host of cousins, including Robert McDougle (Vickie), Tom Gideon (Shelley), Selma Louise McDougle Kinser (Greg), Connie McDougle Rackley (Vann), Larry Hogan, Larry Exendine, and Tim Exendine (Tammy). Bud was predeceased by his grandparents, Alexander Lee (Mr. Mac) McDougle and Clarsia Jane LeGrand McDougle, Danny Hogan (Glenda), Ralph Hogan (Lanore), and his infant brother, Dennis Ray Hogan. A proud graduate of Bristow High School in 1970, Bud continued his education at Southeast Oklahoma State University, earning a degree in music in 1975. Under the mentorship of Bob Pratt, he flourished in the performing arts, participating in summer stock musicals at the Lyric Theater in Oklahoma City. Bud's teaching career spanned over two decades at Lawton Public Schools, where he inspired countless students to pursue their own musical aspirations. He was a cherished member of the community, known for his warmth and generosity. In 2006, he purchased the Maple Valley Mobile Home Park in Newton, NC, and later owned and operated the popular Das Bavarian Haus German Restaurant in Fayetteville from 2014 to 2021. An adventurer at heart, Bud embraced life to the fullest. He was a skilled photographer, scuba diving instructor, pilot, and sports skydiver. His love for the outdoors led him to hike 450 miles of the Appalachian Trail in 1996 and 350 miles in 1998. Bud was also known as the first person in Lawton, OK, to have internet in his home, reflecting his passion for innovation. He starred in many musicals at the Lyric Theater of Oklahoma City and Lawton Community Theater; he considered his theater friends as family. A true friend to many, Bud’s Friday lunch bunch became his close circle, fostering bonds that lasted a lifetime. His spirit and zest for life touched everyone he met, and his legacy will continue to shine through his family, friends, and former students. A celebration of Bud's life will be held from 2:00 - 5:00 pm Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the Reception Hall at Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel, Oklahoma City University, 2501 N. Blackwelder, Oklahoma City, OK. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy or to Lawton Community Theater, Lawton OK, honoring his dedication to the arts.
